my favorite place

The Old Faithful Inn Dining Room

The old faithful inn is my favorite place in the world. I visited this wooden structure in the middle of the Yellowstone wilderness with some of my family a few days ago. Serenity washed over me as I stepped inside despite the infestation of tourists that were filling every crevice imaginable. My favorite part of the place is that there are no television sets or wifi available. It is a safe haven from the tech takeover happening everywhere else across the globe. You truly have to be present, in the moment, to enjoy the splendor of this magnificent abode.
I will never forget the memories I made as a server assistant and a host while working here in the summer of 2019. Though I only worked there for 3 months, it truly felt like a lifetime. The number of genuine human connections I made in that timeframe is not only greater than what I made in my year living in Los Angeles — I believe it would still be greater than what I would have made living 5 years in Los Angeles. Staying in Los Angeles would have been the death of me. Moving back to Montana might have saved my life.

Due to the repercussions of the covid-19 pandemic, the dining room is still closed. I had to see this to believe it. Seeing it made me sad. The breakfast buffet in particular is my favorite. Maybe one day when the world is normal again I will be able to enjoy it.
Suprisingly there was a single room available to book for the night. The Old Faithful Inn rarely has rooms available. People book their stays years in advance. It was 519 dollars. If only I had been working a little longer I might have bought it. Letting go of that opportunity might haunt me for the rest of my summer.
The pianist was not there either. I fondly recall Megan from Chicago playing the game of thrones medley or the harry potter hedwig theme while dinner was being served. That has to be the best job in the world.

One day when the world has ended and the human population has dwindled I would like to live in a castle such as the Old Faithful Inn. I would like to invite all of my loved ones and friends I have made over the thousands of years for dinner and give them rooms to sleep in. I would like for us to dance to fine music and sip expensive wine, for us all to laugh and be merry until the end of time.
One can dream.
