The Pandemic Will Last as Long as It Needs To

Covid-19 is something that is rarely discussed in the hidden away mountain town of Gardiner, Montana. Both visitors and workers come here to get away from the drama of politics. The number of masks being worn are very few. Most people are not vaccinated if you ask them. There is a lot of resistance to either of these things being promoted.

Only one person here at The Ridgeline Hotel openly confirmed that they had the virus all season. She was our manager. We all started wearing masks for a few days at the half hearted suggestion of corporate but quickly reverted back to our maskless existence. With such a small population with little exposure to the outside world, it is hard to blame the people here for being averse to the calamities that the rest of the world is dealing with.

If you watch the television or go on the internet, is is impossible to escape news of the global pandemic though. Since it started, there are two new dangerous variants that experts worry the vaccine may not be effective against. The number of cases is apparently higher than it was even last year. The death count continues to climb. The White House urges everyone to get their shots and get boosted too. Many continue refuse to do so. Both sides of the political spectrum argue about how to deal with it.

Why is this happening? It seems that my entire life the world has been spiraling further into chaos, ever since the World Trader Center was attacked during the 9/11 terrorist operation.

Is nature punishing mankind for being irresponsible inhabitants of the planet? Plagues have often been unleashed on the human race throughout history when the population gets out of control. Is that what this is?

What if everyone actually did get vaccinated? It is hard for me to believe that under such a scenario that this whole pandemic thing would go away and we could continue on trying to solve all of the other problems we have in creating a global society. Perhaps I am pessimistic.

I do not believe the crisis we are currently facing will end if everyone gets vaccinated. Something needs to change and the most frustrating thing is that I am not sure what. I am just a front desk clerk at a hotel. What can I possibly do? Does the world need another self righteous medium writer who thinks his opinions about how the world should work are better than what the people who actually have experience running the world have been doing since forever?

Merry Christmas everyone.
